What is a meet the baby party?

A meet the baby party, also called a sip and see, is a relaxed open house after the birth, where family and friends come to meet the new arrival.

A Celebrations invitation for it is one web page with the date, the visiting hours and the address, an RSVP, and an optional gift list. You share it as a single link, and guests reply with just their name. No app, no account, no ads.

Know who is coming, and when

New parents need to know how many visitors to expect, and the RSVP on the invitation gives one running count instead of a scattered chat thread.

Guests can say who they are bringing and leave a message with their reply. Use the invitation text for the things you would otherwise repeat: come between two and five, wash your hands at the door, stay home if you have a cold. If the baby changes the plan, edit the page once and everyone sees it at the same link.

How the gift list works

A gift list is optional for a meet the baby party, and when you add one, each guest reserves what they plan to bring, so nothing arrives twice.

Paste a link from any shop and Celebrations fills in the picture, the title and the price, or list things without a link, like a home-cooked meal or the next size of diapers. Guests buy wherever they like: Celebrations is not a shop and never handles the money.

What is free, and how big can it be?

A meet the baby invitation on Celebrations is free, and it stays free: there are no ads, no per-guest charges and no trial that runs out.

A free invite shows full details for 15 replies, never turns a guest away, and has a gift list of up to 9 gifts, with every template, colour and font included. One reply covers a guest and whoever they bring along, so 15 replies is usually more people than that.

Before and after the first visit

A meet the baby party can follow a baby shower or take its place, and the same kind of link works for both.

If the shower comes first, see our baby shower invitations. For a second or third baby, a baby sprinkle keeps things small. And when the first candle comes round, our kids birthday invitations will be ready.

Meet the baby invitation FAQs

Is the meet the baby invitation free?
Yes. A free invite shows full details for 15 replies, never turns a guest away, and has a gift list of up to 9 gifts. There are no ads and no per-guest charges.
What is the difference between a sip and see and a baby shower?
A baby shower happens before the birth. A sip and see, or meet the baby party, happens after it, so guests can meet the baby.
When should we hold a meet the baby party?
Whenever the parents feel ready. Send the invitation a week or two ahead, and change the date on the page if the baby has other plans.
Do guests need an app or an account?
No. Guests open the link in any browser and reply with just their name.
Can I add a gift list?
Yes, and it is optional. Guests reserve a gift on the invitation so nothing is bought twice, and you can link to any shop.
Can I say that gifts are not needed?
Yes. Leave the gift list switched off and say so in the invitation text.
Can I keep the invitation private?
Yes. Add a password and only the people you give it to can open the page.
